My Story
Imani Amos Assistant General Director of Chigata Art Institute is a distinguished professional traditional West African dancer, teacher, and choreographer hailing from Chicago, has carved a remarkable path in the world of dance. Commencing her artistic journey as a company member for Alyo Children's Dance Theatre, guided by the skilled director Kimosha Murphy, Imani swiftly immersed herself in the rich traditions of West African dance. Presently, as a principal dancer for Afriky Lolo West African Dance Company, under the direction of Diadie Bathily, Imani's performances continue to be a testament to her mastery of the art form and her commitment to preserving its cultural roots.
Beyond her accomplishments as a performer, Imani has demonstrated her leadership in dance education and choreography. From directing and choreographing for the Donia Dance Team at Betty Shabazz Academy to establishing an African dance program under After School Matters, she has imparted her expertise and passion to aspiring dancers. Currently, as the co-founder and Executive Director of Foliba, Imani has taken on a transformative role in shaping the future of African drum and dance. Originally conceived as a national conference for youth, Foliba, under Imani's visionary leadership, is poised to evolve into a dynamic platform that extends beyond boundaries, fostering a deeper appreciation for West African cultural expressions.
